Commitments

Who can participate

CPH STAGE is an open festival for professional adult theatre. This means that the participating performances must be suitable for audiences from 16 years of age and that everyone must comply with the applicable collective agreement. Registration is free and the festival is open to all types of performances – both revivals and premieres. In addition, readings, emerging and school performances are also welcome.

Distribution of responsibilities

Participating theatres and groups are independently responsible for their own finances, including all production costs, and that all regulatory requirements are met and necessary permits are obtained. Participants are also responsible for finding a venue and determining the details of the collaboration between the visiting group and the stage. It is the participant's responsibility to enter events in Tereba and validate the information entered. It is not possible to add a performance to the festival via Tereba until you have registered via Eventotron and signed the registration agreement.

CPH STAGE is responsible for the running of the festival itself, including administration, communication and production of selected industry and audience initiatives. Participating theatres and groups are primarily responsible for marketing their performance and related events. The festival is obliged to include the performance in the festival's printed programme and on the website.

Collective agreement

The festival expects all participating theatres to comply with the applicable collective agreements or to offer terms equivalent to such agreements. Dansk Scenekunst enters into special agreements in cases where festivals are not covered by the standard collective agreement.

You can read the new collective agreement for the Column B theatres (the Regional Theatres, the Danish National Opera, and the theatres under the Copenhagen Theatre Partnership), which includes festivals via Dansk Scenekunst.

The agreement for the Column A theatres has not yet been finalised, but work is underway on a special agreement similar to the one for 2025. You can read the 2025 agreement here.

As CPH STAGE receives funding from both the Danish state and the City of Copenhagen, we are obliged to ensure that our partners – including sponsors – comply with labour clause requirements. This means that we expect proper pay and working conditions, including rules on working hours and valid residence and work permits. Read more about labour clauses here.

Tickets and festival wristbands

The festival undertakes a number of group-sales initiatives, including corporate, organisational, and media partnerships, as well as the festival’s own hosted group tours. These activities form part of the festival’s audience development work and aim to strengthen visibility and increase ticket sales. This may, for example, include socially vulnerable groups. As part of this, the festival may offer ticket sales at a discount equivalent to an “adult group” rate via a campaign code. It is possible to opt out of this in the contract with CPH STAGE.

The festival also has a number of VIPs who receive personal campaign codes granting two complimentary tickets per performance during the festival. This is a service for the press, supporters, and others, and it is expected that all participating organisers/theatre producers will be willing for these guests to experience their performances.

CPH STAGE’s festival wristband is available to both audiences and industry professionals. The wristband can be used for all performances that are not sold out on the day. When purchasing a festival wristband ticket on our website, audience members are automatically signed up to our public newsletter, where during the festival we will send daily tips on performances that still have tickets available. Participating venues are automatically included in the wristband scheme and are obliged to record how many wristband holders they admit. Revenue from the wristband scheme will subsequently be distributed among the theatres according to a distribution key that guarantees 25% of the average single-ticket price. The wristband costs DKK 350.

Play times and ticket creation

PLAY TIMES
Experience from previous years shows that most performances play at 20:00, which creates unnecessary competition for the audience. At the same time, experience shows that there can be good occupancy at off-peak times. We have therefore established the following guideline for playing times during the festival: If a show plays more than 3 times during the festival, we encourage at least one show to start at a time other than 20:00.

We encourage you to schedule the performances at even times, e.g. 16:00, 18:00, 20:00, so that the audience has the opportunity to see several performances on the same day.

It is a good idea to engage in a dialog with the festival secretariat about scheduling. The goal of this is to better coordinate performance times to ensure more opportunities for the audience to see multiple performances in one day.

TICKET CREATION
Participating theatres and groups that register for the festival through the open registration receive all ticket revenues and set their own ticket prices. Performances for the festival must be created for sale via Tereba, so the performances will be available for sale on cphstage.dk and teaterbilletter.dk.

The festival uses Billetten A/S as ticket operator and ticket portal. If your theatre is a member of Scenit or the billetbillet collaboration, you automatically have a ticket agreement that can be used during the festival. The organizer has access to Billetten's statistics. New users will receive an email with a link and password when they sign up.

If you do not have a ticketing agreement, we encourage you to use Billetten A/S, as it gives the audience the best user experience. We have negotiated a good deal for all participating theatres. Selling tickets in the system costs a click fee per ticket sold, which Billetten A/S deducts when settling the total ticket sales. There is also a click fee on free tickets. Ticket handling for free performances is without a click fee.

For more info about ticketing, contact Billetten A/S on tel. +45 75 54 20 81.
