STATEN is not traditional theater. There are no actors, no set design and no linear narrative. Instead, the audience is invited live on location at site-specific locations in Copenhagen. Each episode features personal stories from citizens of the state across all walks of life - including civil servants, job consultants, bank robbers, migrants and activists - and ranges from the deeply personal to the systemic.

Meet Ole, a conventional farmer, in Territory at The Hirschsprung Collection, or hear Rikke and Helene in Hands Full share their personal stories of systemic failure and the fight for inclusion in daycare for children with special needs, or join Kevin on a drive through the streets of his childhood in Heat as he talks about his many bank robberies.

STATEN paints a kaleidoscopic portrait of the state as community and construction - an examination of the structures and values that bind us together in a time of polarization.

Inspired by streaming services, audiences can subscribe to STATEN for DKK 129/month instead of buying tickets for individual episodes. With a subscription, you can freely choose between the episodes you want to experience, making it a flexible and innovative way to experience performing arts. The episodes take place live on location and can be experienced both individually or as a collective journey through the many facets of the state.
