New Danish musical about daring to own your gender, your sexuality and yourself based on the true story of the scandalous Danish variety stars: the Barrison Sisters.
On the threshold of the twentieth century, the Barrison sisters lay all of Europe at their feet with daring dance and ambiguous songs. The sisters ignite the hidden fantasies of the bourgeoisie and play with the boundaries of gender and sexual morality in society. At the same time, their wish for women's liberation sets the conservative defenders of the old values on fire. They leave a trail of rumors, lawsuits, jealousy and suicide in their wake.
Follow Lona, Gertrude, Inger, Olga and Sophie on stage and in the wings - always moving quickly to a new location under the direction of their sensationalist impresario, the anarchist William Fleron. Fleron and Lona use the scandal as a medium, and the sisters outrage and seduce, while the audience, hysterical with excitement, flock to the theaters to experience the incarnation of the entertainment industry: the Barrison Sisters.
Line Mørkeby writes brand new drama freely based on the true story of the Danish girl group. Søren Hansen composes the performance with brand new and co-narrative music. The play's house director Thomas Bendixen stages a macabre, humorous and thoroughly musical performance where the audience can smell the alcohol, sawdust and sweat.
Developed through The Royal Danish Theatre's playwriting laboratory. KGL Danish is supported by the Beckett Foundation.
Tickets for the performance are sold through our Swapcard platform.
