Anne Frank died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp shortly before her 16th birthday. In the concert performance, Nis Bank-Mikkelsen reads excerpts from The Diary of Anne Frank - one of the most important testimonies to the annihilation of Europe's Jews under Nazism.
The story is accompanied by chorales by J.S. Bach and klezmer music played by Jens Schou and Anders Singh Vesterdahl. The selected passages and pieces of music mirror each other in both jubilation and despair. Bank-Mikkelsen reads these passages as if he was the first to discover the diary, just as Anne's father did when he discovered the diary. Meanwhile, the music becomes a wordless song that has freed itself from words and simply rejoices and cries.
