WHY THIS WORK WAS SELECTED
This is a declaration of love to the sea. An outdoor walking performance, where the audience is wearing wireless headphones. Each of the three performers has their own personal relationship with the sea – being in, on or by it for long periods of time. Like most romantic relationships, it is complicated. We invite the audience to join our investigation into the nuances of the sea – our dreams and nightmares, our fascination and physical relation with it, the songs and fairytales that we connect to it. And we ask: Will you join us in a toast for the sea – in sea water? The performance is a montage of sound, performative imagery, interactions and narratives surrounding the sea.
The performance is co-created by Swedish performer, writer and theatre maker Annikki Wahlöö and performers and theatre makers Sara F. Søndergaard and Rasmus M. L. Skov (Teater Fluks). Sound design is created as a composition of live sound, field recordings and electronic music by composer and musician Merlyn Silva.

THE CONTEXT
“One For The Sea is a declaration of love to the sea. And just like romantic love, this is not uncomplicated. There are a ton of stories to tell. Some good, some bad, some straight out horrific and hopefully some will also be funny.
Our work develops from the personal experiences and positions of the performers. From memories, myths and research. Always with a great respect and veneration for the sea.”

INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY
One for the Sea is a declaration of love to the sea. It is performed by the sea. And as such our focus will be to find festivals, venues and other cultural actors that are located in the vicinity of the sea. It will premiere as part of The Ocean Race – stopover – in Aarhus in May 2023, and will also have a Swedish premiere in Stockholm in 2024. The ambition is to tour the piece to a number of festivals and venues that are connected to the Sea – primarily in North-West Europe and the Nordic countries.

FORMAT AND SUSTAINABILITY
“One for the Sea is all about our relationship with the Sea, and how to ensure a concrete and visceral connection to this wonderful and troubled entity. We will work with a relatively light setup that will make touring easier and lower local (negative) impact. Materials will be chosen with a view to environmental sustainability. We will work towards collecting touring possibilities in geographically connected areas – so that we can keep travel expenses and impact to a minimum.”
