Handcrafted masur bowls are spread across the stage, following nature’s own form with their unique and organic shapes. A woman is floating in a hallucinogenic sea, moving through what becomes a mythological landscape. She is evoking the past and present, voices and memories. OCEANIC has an original, immersive sound set-up, including custom-made mechanical string instruments. Together, the protagonist, the sounding sculptures and the light create an embodied space for careful tuning and wild listening. It’s a performance for an adult audience, and could be particularly interesting for those with a special interest in choreography or/and experimental music.

THE COMPANY: MARIE TOPP & JULIA GIERTZ

Marie Topp (DK) and Julia Giertz (SE) met at The National School of Performing Arts in Denmark (2005-2009) – since then they have maintained a close artistic dialogue. During the last ten years they have been continuously involved in each other’s artistic projects as colleagues and collaborators. Often in collaboration with lighting designer Mårten K Axelsson and dramaturge Igor Dobričić.

The performances can be experienced as spaces of force, emotion and imagination that allows for the complexity of the senses to unfold. The body and the imagination are placed as central to the experience and the production of knowledge. The works are characterized by the coexistence of their practices and a shared interest in the craft of composition.

Oceanic is the first piece that Topp and Giertz co-sign.

INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY

OCEANIC is a performance that is produced and prepared for touring. The work is presented at and co-produced by Dansehallerne and the Swedish network Slingan (MDT, Atalante, Dansstationen). It was selected and will be presented at ICE HOT Nordic Danceplatform in July 2022.

We wish to create new collaborations with international partners and wish both to tour this performance and find new strong collaborations for future projects. The company is especially interested in meeting people with an interest in presenting experimental music and choreography.

FORMAT AND SUSTAINABILITY

The company is especially interested in meeting presenters and new collaborators who are situated within train distance (10 hours) to either Stockholm or Copenhagen where the artists are based.

The Company uses trains as transportation when it is possible.
